I have never done plumbing work or any sump stuff before. I bought a 5-foot section of 1.5-inch PVC, pvc cement primer, and pvc cement at the local hardware store. I used a jigsaw (only thing I had) and cut the pipe so it would come up to the 90 degree bend over my pit. I primed and cemented the pipe into the Y fitting and let it sit for 30 minutes to set. Cut my old pump out, dropped this one in, and used a 4-inch long rubber fitting with screw clamps on each side of it to join to my existing pipe. Sure beats the nearly $1500 quote I received to have a contractor put in a battery backup combo system. And it was not difficult to install since it is pre-assembled!

After 18 years of running, I decided it was time for a new one. And since the battery backup didn't work, it was time for one of those too. I checked online before buying. This was not a time to skimp on quality when the future of my basement is concerned! I dropped the pump in the sump, plugged it in, and poured water down the hole. Powered pump worked flawlessly and was QUIET. Now if the power goes out, I have about 10 days worth of sump drainage because I hooked up two batteries! Highly recommend this pump. Make sure you get a DEEP CYCLE MARINE battery. I checked with Wayne about installing two batteries; they told me it was not tested for such an installation and a problem of over charging may occur. I bought a Battery Tender Deltran Battery Tender (021-0128) 1.25 Amp Battery Charger to it so it keeps them charged and never over-charges them.

Purchased the WSSM30V last year, but did not feel the need to write a review until we lost power for 2+ days recently. The pump worked perfectly, our basement stayed dry (our neighbors did not).
When power is out, there is an audible alarm. Not quiet, but not blaring either. You can hear it from one floor away. During operation, the pump is very quiet.

My Zoeller pump was eight years old and it was time to replace it. The all in one unit made sense as the back-up unit was much better than the existing one in the well. I hired the installation through Amazon and it went well. One word of caution: Make sure you know the width of the bottom part of the basin. Many times they taper so even though the top diameter may be 18-inches the bottom may only be 16-1/2-inches. For my basin, it is a tight fit in the well due the increased size of the back-up unit.

It took 30 minutes to install and get everything the way I wanted it and all I had to purchase was a little piece of extension pipe to go into the WSSM20V and connect to my existing outlet pipe. The entire thing was assembled and ready to go right out of the box and the battery that came separately was fully charged and also ready to go. You really do not need instructions to hook this up. I filled the pit and bam, it sucked the water out instantly.

While I have been fortunate to never lose power, when I saw the sump pit filling quickly, and the pump cycling every 20 to 25 seconds, I realized that if I did lose power I would never restore it quickly enough to prevent the pit from overrunning. Also, the same problem would occur if I was not at home and the power failed. After research I settled on this system, and couldn't be happier. The install was simple, and both pumps work just as claimed, while also being very quiet. Hopefully I'll never need the backup pump, but have the peace of mind knowing it is there.

I just installed this system. This replaced an old one in the house that was about to die. We had our plumber install it and Its been working well since.

Wayne Combination Sump Pump
Wayne has three combo pumps: the WSS20V, WSS30V, and the WSSM40V. WSS20V is the lowest pumping system with the primary CDU790 is 1/3 HP with pump performance curve of 3060 GPH at a 10 foot vertical height and the backup ESP15 pumps 720 GPH while the WSSM40V is the largest system with the primary CDU800 ½ HP pump with performance cureve of 3840 GPH At 10-feet and the backup WSM3300 which pumps 2300 GPH at 10-feet with a 5-year warranty.
Zoeller Combination Sump Pumps
Zoeller has four combo pumps: 507-0008, 507-0011, 508-0006 and 508-0007. Both the Sentry backup 507-005 and the Aquanot backup 508-005 can be purchased with either the M53 1/3 HP (model 507-0007 and 508-0006) or the M98.1/2 HP (model 507-0011 and 508-0007). The Aquanot backup has twice as much pump performance at 1800 GPH at 10-feet as the Sentry backup model with a 720 GPH. Both of these combination-sump-pump-systems have WiFi capability through Z Control and its app.
Basement Watchdog Combo Sump Pump
Basement Watchdog (also known by its manufacturer Glentronics) has five combo pump systems: DFK961, BW4000, PS-C11, PS-C22, PS-C33. The lowest pumping capacity systems is the Glentronics PS-C11 with primary ST1033 1/3 HP cast-iron base and aluminum housing, dual cates vertical float switch and pump performance of 2,770 GPH at 10-feet with the backup PHCC-1000 with 1,000 GPH and a 3 year warranty. The combo system where the primary and backup system have about the same GPH is the PS-C33 where the primary pump which is 1/3 HP with cast-iron base and aluminum-housing and dual cast enclosed float switches and 3000 GPH at 10-feet height and the battery back-up pumps 2,400 GPH at 10-feet and a 3-year warranty.
Liberty Pumps Combination-Sump-Pumps
Liberty Pumps has six combination sump pumps: PC237-441, PC257-441, PC457-441, PC237-442, PC257-442, and PC457-442. They all have a 3-year warranty. The lowest pumping capacity combination-sump-pump system is the PC237 with 1/3 HP, polypropylene base and aluminum housing and vortex impeller and vertical magnetic float pumps 1,800 GPH at 10-feet, and the battery backup 441 which pumps 1,260 GPH at 10-feet. The greatest pumping capacity system is the PC457-442-10A with primary pump 457 which is ½ HP, polypropylene base and aluminum housing and vortex impeller and vertical magnetic float pumps 2,520 GPH at 10-feet and the battery backup 442 which pumps 2,100 GPH. The combination-sump-pumps with the battery backup 442 can have the Night Eye app enabled to provide intelligent monitoring to provide real time notifications via text message, email or push notification. The 442 is also capable of handling two batteries and comes with a three-year warranty.
Pentair Water Combination-Sump-Pumps
Pentair Water (Flotec-Pumps) has two combo pump systems: FPCC3320 and FPCC5030. The combo systems with the lowest pump-performance is the FPCC3320 with the primary sump pump FPZS33V with 1/3 HP, vertical float switch, 2,400 GPH at 10-foot, thermoplastic base, zinc housing, bottom suction screen, 1-1/4-inch or 1-1/2 inch discharge, and the battery backup PS17-118 with reed float, 600 GPH. The system requires a 14-inch diameter basin, has a 1 year warranty and can contact a cell phone or computer via Link2O. The FPCC5030 includes the primary sump-pump FPZS33V with 1/3 HP, thermoplastic base, zinc housing, 3,000 GPH, vertical float switch, bottom suction screen, 1-1/4-inch or 1-1/2 inch discharge, and the backup-pump PS17-2005 with thermoplastic housing, reed float switch and a 2,000 GPH, The system requires a 14-inch diameter basin and has a 2 year warranty and can contact a cell phone or computer via Link2O.
Measure the basin top diameter and notice if the basin narrows toward the bottom. Most 18-inch diameter pits narrow gradually toward the bottom which is generally around 16.75 inches wide.
Note the basin size required for the system per the manufacturer documentation.
Know the GPH required to handle the water volume coming into the pit during a heavy rainstorm. If the GPH required is unknown, identify the distance between the ON and OFF point of the float switch. (The manufacturer will include this info in their specifications.) Count how many times the pump runs in 60 seconds (1 minute) during heavy rain. If your basin diameter is 18-inches, 1 inch equals one gallon. If your basin diameter is 24-inches, 1 inch equals two gallon. Multiple the number of inches between the ON and OFF point times number of times the pump runs in 60 minutes times one. For example, if the distance between the ON and OFF is 5 inches and the sump-pump runs 5 times during 1 minute and the basin in 18-inches the primary-pump GPH required is 25 GPM or 1,500 GPH.
Decide the GPH desired by the battery backup. Only a few backup-pumps with a combo system are close to the GPH of the primary pump. The Liberty Pumps using the 442 backup-pump are very similar to their primary sump pump.
Decide the importance of a warranty. Wayne has the longest warranty. Flotec has the shortest. Most pump manufacturers offer a 3-year warranty.
